About Essential oils.

Wow.  What I've recently learned about essential oils is amazing!
I used to think I new a fair amount, but my eyes have really been opened.  Many myths of essential oil usage have been blown away all thanks to this wonderful company. . . doTERRA.

doTERRA means "gift of the earth."  Click on the image below for my wellness store:

Myth #1  All oils are 100% pure because they say it on the label.

There are no regulatory standards for labeling the bottles of essential oils.  Just because it says 100% pure essential oil doesn't mean that there aren't additives, contaminants, pesticides, or other chemical residues present in the oil you buy.  Some of the oils are completely synthetic!  Many companies either don't have the knowledge or aren't willing to take the time and care needed to produce high quality essential oils.  doTERRA's standards are unmatched in that every oil is tested to make sure it meets the Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade stamp of approval.  doTERRA is committed to keeping the chemical makeup of each oil as close as possible to the way it's found in nature.  This ensures the presence of the naturally-existing active compounds at the right levels necessary for maximum therapeutic benefit.  This means our bodies are able to recognize and use the oils readily.

Myth #2  You can not ingest essential oils.
To ingest most of the oils that are readily available at local stores would offer no health benefits and may even be harmful.  Many store bought bottles say "for external use only."  However, most of the doTERRA oils are perfectly safe to take internally and sometimes that is the preferred method for certain health problems.  There are three main ways to use doTERRA essential oils.  Aromatically, topically, or internally.

Myth #3  It doesn't matter where the oil is from.  Lavender essential oil is Lavender.
It's hard to tell the difference by smelling the oils.  And if all you want is the smell then it won't matter where you buy your oils.  Although for the greatest therapeutic benefit, the plant that the oil comes from should be harvested at the correct time.  doTERRA works closely with a global network of leading essential oil chemists and growers to select botanicals of the correct species, grown in the ideal environments, and carefully harvested at the right time.
Essential oils are naturally safe and have few, if any, undesirable side effects when used as directed.

What is an Essential oil?
Essential oils are natural aromatic compounds found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other parts of plants. Essential oils have been used throughout history in many cultures for their medicinal and therapeutic benefits.  Modern trends towards more holistic approaches to self care and growing scientific validation of alternative health practices are driving a rediscovery of the profound  health benefits of essential oils.  Massage La Mesa aromatherapy massage is pleased to use these essential oils.

Extraction Methods
Therapeutic-grade essential oils are most often extracted via a low-heat steam distillation process in which steam is circulated under pressure through plant material liberating the essential oils into the steam.  As the steam mixture cools, the water and oils are separated and the oil is collected in its pure form.  To ensure the highest quality oil extract of correct chemical composition, temperature and pressure must be monitored very closely.  Too little heat and pressure will not release valuable oil, while too much can fracture an extract's delicate chemical composition and alter its potency.
